What is a deep hole?
Generally, when the ratio of hole depth L and hole diameter D is greater than 5, that is, L/d>5, it is called deep hole.

Classification of deep hole machining

Classification by processing method
Solid material deep hole drilling method: the blank material doesn’t have hole, to use deep hole drilling method to process deep hole.
Deep hole boring method: the blank material has deep hole, in order to correct the defects of existing deep hole and expand the size of the hole diameter, it is the method that improve the processing accuracy of the existing deep hole.
Deep hole reaming method: the blank material has deep hole, in order to further improve the dimensional accuracy of existing deep hole and reduce the surface roughness of hole, the reaming method of small back cutting is adopted.
Deep hole trepanning drilling method: the blank material doesn’t have hole, and the deep hole is drilled with a hollow drill, and a mandrel remains in the center of the blank material after drilling.
Deep hole honing method: the blank material has deep hole, in order to improve the surface quality, surface stress state and dimensional accuracy of the existing deep hole, the principle of low-speed grinding is used to modify the deep hole machining method on the inner surface of deep hole parts.
Deep hole rolling method: the blank material has deep hole, in order to finish the existing deep hole size, surface quality and strengthen the deep hole surface, the plastic deformation principle is used to correct the inner hole surface defects of deep hole parts.
High energy beam deep hole processing method: the blank material doesn’t have hole, and uses the energy of high energy beam (laser beam, ion beam) to drill deep hole by photothermal effect.
Deep hole vibration drilling method: the blank material doesn’t have hole, and the drill bit (or workpiece) vibrates regularly at the same time of normal working and feeding, so that the drill bit can cut in vibration, form pulse cutting force waveform, and change the cutting parameters according to certain laws, so as to improve the cutting efficiency.
Classification by movement type
Workpiece rotates, and tool feeds processing mode: the workpiece does the main movement, and the tool does the feed movement.
The workpiece does not move, and the tool rotates and feeds processing mode: the tool does the main movement and the feed movement.
Workpiece and tool reverse rotate, and tool feeds processing mode: workpiece and tool do the main movement at the same time, and the tool also does the feed movement.
Workpiece rotates and feeds, the tool does not move processing mode: workpiece does both the main movement and the feed movement.
Classification by chip removal method
External chip removal processing mode: during deep hole processing, the cutting fluid enters the cutting area from the inside of the drill pipe, and the chip is discharged from the outside of the cutting tool rod.
Internal chip removal processing mode: during deep hole processing, the cutting fluid enters the cutting area from the annular space formed by the outside of the drill pipe and the processed hole, and the chip is discharged from the inside of the cutting tool rod.
